McGill, Spartans want more aggressive bats
After an 8-0 April 3 loss to Lafayette County of Higginsville at Southview Park, Richmond varsity baseball coach Zach McGill, and teammates Carsin Wirsig and Lochlan Steele agreed the Spartans must be more aggressive at bat.
Specifically, they must be more aggressive when they’re served fastballs.
The lack of aggressiveness has only been an issue for a few games, according to McGill.
“For whatever reason, we’ve been a little passive,” McGill said after the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division defeat.
The Spartans have been reluctant to swing at fastballs in general this season, according to Wirsig and Steele.
“I think we, as a team, watch too many fastballs right down the middle,” Steele said. “We’re being too selective as a team. Our approach isn’t there yet. But I think, in a few more games, a few more weeks, we’re going to be good – we’re going to be in good shape.”
