The makeup of the squad Zach McGill is leading in his second season as Richmond varsity baseball coach is drastically different than his first. “We’re definitely a lot younger,” McGill said March 12. “We were already young.” McGill’s youth-laden team includes “a bunch of juniors, a group of sophomores and a bunch of freshmen,” he said. “We are going to be developing as we go,” said McGill, a Richmond alumnus and former assistant coach. Sophomore Jacob Lieberknecht, who returns from last season, is among the underclassmen. He’s thrilled to be part of a young ballclub, he said. “We’ve got a lot of young guys in here that are coming in here to work hard, a lot of young guys that want to earn a spot up on the varsity and a lot of young talent,” Lieberknecht said. “I mean, we’ve got a lot of boys that have played a lot of baseball.
