Breen shares insight into Ray County food insecurities

Food insecurity is becoming more common in Ray County, with hundreds of families relying on local food pantries each month and donations steadily declining. Due to the increase in food pantry usage while available resources are shrinking, Special Needs Services (SNS) of Ray County Executive Director Suzan Breen is taking initiative aimed at education, awareness and longterm solutions. “We need long-term solutions in addition to the short-term fixes,” said Breen. “The long term is assisting people to become job ready and have openings in Ray County. Employers are afraid to expand their workforce due to the economic climate. We want to work with other community organizations to move people from a position of dependence to one of independence.” Breen is part of a push to spread awareness and provide education about food insecurity. That effort will ramp up next month when Special Needs Services launches its “Community Connection” series at the Ray County Library beginning April 16…
