Judith Blair

Judith May Jackson Scott Blair, age 105, passed away peacefully March 15, 2025, at Walker’s Trail Senior Living in Danville, Ky. Judy was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Richmond to May and James Jackson. She graduated in 1937 from Richmond High School and in 1941 from Central College, earning a degree in commerce. During her high school and college years, she was active in drama and music groups. Upon graduation, she moved to Wilmington, Del., to become secretary to the director of the Hercules Powder Co. Experimental Station.

On April 28,1943, Judy married George William Scott, a research chemist at DuPont. They established their home in Claymont, Del., where their three children were born. During their years in Claymont, Judy and George enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and attending theater and musical performances.

In 1955, the family moved to Louisville, where Judy enjoyed being a full-time mother and homemaker. She enthusiastically supported her children’s various interests and activities, being involved in PTA, Girl Scouts and band boosters. She and George continued to enjoy bridge and theater, as well as new activities like square dancing.

They were longtime members of the Wayfarer’s Sunday school class at Christ Church United Methodist, and shared 50 years together before George’s death in 1993.

Judy married James M. Blair, a longtime friend from Richmond, on Sept. 2, 1995, in Louisville. He soon became an active member of Christ Church United Methodist.

Judy took great joy in ringing bells with the church’s handbell choir and did so well into her 90s. She organized many Red Cross blood drives at the church, resulting in a commission as a Kentucky Colonel.

Judy embraced technology, buying her first computer in her 70s and first smartphone in her 90s. She loved to cook, play word games on her iPad, do needlework, grow flowers and spend time with her family.

She lovingly cared for Jim until his death in 2012. Judy remained in their home until she was 101. In 2023, she moved to Danville to be closer to family.

Judy is survived by her children, Richard (Joyce) Scott, Sheryl Scott and Patti (Robert) Rowland; and stepchildren, James (Sherril) Blair and Jane (Gordon Hall) Shepherd-Hall. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two step-greatgrandsons, one great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first husband, George; and second husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Jackson; and son-in-law, Richard (Sheryl) Koehn.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Walker’s Trail Senior Living and Heritage Hospice for their loving care of Judy.

A memorial service will be held in Louisville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville or Heritage Hospice in Danville.

W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
