Cats take another step under Kinder
saw progress in his Bearcats in his second season as Orrick’s varsity girls basketball coach.
“I think this year we took another step in the process,” Kinder opined Sunday via email. “You don’t go from four wins in three years, with one of those years being winless, to district champs overnight. It takes time. I expect us to build on this year again next year, like we did last year.”
The Orrick girls finished 4-17. They split their first four games, then went 1-2 at the I-70 Conference Tournament in December. Their last victory came on Jan. 22 at home against Penney of Hamilton.
They ended the season with a 22-19 loss to Norborne in the Class 1 District 13 Tournament.
“Probably the best game we’ve played in my time as head coach,” Kinder wrote. “Just had our worst shooting night. Everything else was spot on for us. Defensively, we executed really well. You aren’t always going to score, but if you play good defense, you give yourself a chance. We did exactly that.”
