Both Richmond varsity basketball teams have the top seed in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament. In securing the top seed, both squads secured first-round byes in the singleelimination postseason competition. The Richmond boys were slated to play Northeast, a Kansas City-based school, in the semifinals Wednesday night in Kansas City at tournament host St. Pius X High School, with the winner to play for the district title at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Northeast helped secure the clash by trouncing Guadalupe Centers Charter School 67-14 Monday. At press time, the Richmond girls also were preparing to play Northeast. Tipoff was set for Thursday at tournament host Excelsior Springs, with the victor to play for the district title at 5 p.m. Saturday. Like their boys counterparts, the Northeast girls advanced by defeating Guadalupe Centers, cruising to a 33-16 win Tuesday. A 23-3 regular season helped the Richmond boys secure their seeding.
