Charlene Rae Cassity, 86, of Rayville passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Charlene was born May 23, 1938, in Rothville, the daughter of Luther and Mae (Swank) Sportsman. She was united in marriage to Charles Leroy Cassity of Rayville on June 1, 1958. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2023. Survivors include her two sons, Gary Cassity of Braymer and Greg Cassity of Rayville; and grandson, Dillon Cassity of Rayville. Other survivors include her three step-grandchildren, Bryan (Kathy) Drew, Bert (Josh) Herring and Kayla (Joshua) Clevenger; stepgreat- Charlene Cassity

grandchildren, Colton, Addison, Dalton, Chase, DeNoble and Jarius; and daughter-in-law, Linda Cassity.

In addition to her parents and husband, Charlene was preceded in death by her step-sister, Donna.

Charlene loved her family and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to her flowers, watching the birds or feeding the wild raccoons. She had a deep love for animals and cherished their companionship. Charlene also enjoyed taking car rides and going places with her grandchildren.

An avid reader and talented pianist, she shared her musical gift by playing at Richmond Christian Union Church, where she was a devoted member.

She attended Rothville schools and was a proud graduate of Mendon High School.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Ray County. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and services to follow at 11. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
