Steven “Steve” Robert Harmon, 54, of Richmond passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at North Care Hospice House in Kansas City. Steve was born June 26, 1970, in Independence, the son of Thomas Marlon “Tom” and Bonnie Jean (Thomas) Harmon. Survivors include his mother, Bonnie Jean Harmon of Rayville; grandson, Waylon Coen of Lexington; brother, Thomas “Kevin” Harmon of Richmond; two nephews, Thomas T. Harmon of Richmond and Nicholas A. Harmon of Enfield, Conn.; and niece, Jenny Simpson of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his father. Steve was raised and educated in Richmond. He worked as a butcher for Harold’s in Richmond and later for Walmart, where he took pride in his craft and enjoyed connecting with customers.
Beyond his work, Steve had a natural artistic talent, creating unique and beautiful yard sculptures from what others might see as scraps. His creativity turned ordinary materials into extraordinary pieces.
When he wasn’t bringing his artistic visions to life, he loved riding his four-wheeler, often joined by family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his grandson, Waylon.

Visitation with funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the services at 7. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
