SUSIE Q. PROFFITT
The Richmond News, Feb. 7, 2025
Susie Q. Proffitt, age 80, of Richmond went home to her Heavenly Father on Jan. 31, 2025. She passed at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Susie was born Jan. 23, 1945, to Charles Harold Campbell Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth (Coulter) Campbell near Browning. She graduated in 1962 from Westport High School in Kansas City. On Sept. 14, 1962, she married Marion D. Chrisman; and to that union, three sons were born: Harold Dean, Charles Dean and Floyd Gleaves Chrisman. Susie later married Larry Wayne Proffitt and gained another son, Michael Proffitt.
Susie was a talented painter, artist, seamstress and craftswoman, and above all, an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. She operated art and ceramic shops in Richmond, Lexington and Ozark.
Susie worked for Meyer Communications at radio stations KLEX in Lexington and KTXR in Springfield.
In addition to her own children, Susie was a second mother to many of the boys’ friends. Susie was a devoted “Granny” who enjoyed attending all of the grandkids’ important events.
She loved fishing and camping. She enjoyed visiting with people and loved to laugh. Susie didn’t know a stranger.
Susie is survived by her sister, Rose June Sample; sisterin- law, Ann Campbell; sons, Harold Chrisman and wife Kimberly of Richmond, Michael Proffitt of Richmond, Charles Chrisman and wife Shinobu of Gresham, Ore., and Floyd “Buddy” Chrisman and wife Erin of Sweet Springs.
Other survivors include her grandchildren, Jeremy Chrisman, Nicholas Chrisman, Malori Chrisman, Micah Chrisman, Davin Proffitt, Seth Heimsoth, Megan Heimsoth and Coulter Chrisman; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter on the way. She also is survived by her nephews, Austin Campbell and Clint Campbell; nieces, Cathy Massie and Debbie Holgerson; “fifth son,” Philip Spease; and many “Campbell” cousins.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Larry; sister, Faye Sizemore; brother, Charles H. “Charley” Campbell Jr.; and nephews, Daniel Copenhaver and Jarret Campbell.
Funeral services and visitation were scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, with visitation beginning at noon and services following at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, and burial immediately following at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The family was to receive friends one hour before the service.
Memorials are suggested to the Ray County Humane Society or Dockery Baptist Church. Memorials can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond. MO 64085.
Larry and Susie will be together, cheering on their beloved Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX, ensuring that everyone is abiding by their time-honored superstitions and “rules” during the game.
