Change starts at home Emotions often run high after a presidential election. Some celebrate triumphantly, while others grapple with dread or sorrow, lamenting the new administration and fearing what the next four years might bring. It’s tempting to dwell on the national stage – to complain about policies we dislike, bemoan the state of the union or fear the future. But let’s take a moment to shift our perspective. The president, powerful as the office may be, doesn’t single-handedly dictate the course of our daily lives. Decisions made in Washington often feel distant and abstract, while the actions of local leaders, school boards, city councils and community organizations directly impact our neighborhoods. Yet, paradoxically, local issues tend to receive less attention and engagement from most citizens.
