Momentum slips in Richmond girls fifth-place loss

Genevieve Didier sensed she and her Richmond teammates were in a zone when they began their fifth-place game with Excelsior Springs in varsity girls basketball at the Lawson Invitational. Then, they fell out of the zone. Spurred by a three-point bucket by Didier, the Spartans raced to a 13-0 lead and were up 15-8 after one quarter. But the Tigers took control with a 15-5 secondquarter run and went on to win the Jan. 17 meeting at Lawson High School 49-37. “I think we just were clicking in the beginning. … Everyone was working together,” said Didier, who led Richmond with 12 points and was the lone Spartan in double figures. “We were finding passes. Our shots were hitting. Our defense, we were getting steals. It was like everything was working.” Teammate Adilyn Swope also sensed the Spartans were clicking on all cylinders – at first. “We were just playing really well as a team, finding the open passes, we were playing at our pace,” Swope said.
