Gladys Carol (Penny) Calvert, age 85, of Laurie passed away Jan. 10, 2025, at home. She was born May 5, 1939, to the late Charles and Fern (Stubblefield) Penny. On Dec. 28, 1957, in Richmond, she was united in marriage to Norman L. Calvert. Carol graduated high school in Stet, then resided in Richmond with her husband Norman. She worked as a secretary in the Ray County Clerk’s Office, was a homemaker and mother, and co-owned and operated a motorcycle business with her husband Norman.
In early adulthood, she was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She and Norman developed many lifelong friends while they resided in Richmond.
In the 1980s, they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, where she and Norman built homes, later retiring and settling in Laurie at Indian Rock Golf Course. Golf was her passion. She developed many friendships and spent countless hours on the course and in the clubhouse.
She attended many class reunions and enjoyed reuniting with high school friends and reminiscing about playing high school basketball.
Carol had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved to give gifts and help out any chance she could.
She is survived by her son, Brent Calvert and wife Susan of Montreal, Mo.; daughter, Denise Irwin and husband Paul of Laurie; three grandchildren, Sarah Sweat and husband Jonathan, Cole Calvert and wife Manda, and Sydney Irwin; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; brother, Kenneth; and infant sister, Helen Ann.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at the New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Ray County, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Norman.
