Rayville man reaches agreement with prosecutor
A Rayville man has been sentenced to five years’ probation after entering a plea agreement on one felony charge involving a child.
Mason L. Shearer, 20, was initially charged with three felonies, including first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in serious injury, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child involving drugs, and abuse or neglect of a child causing serious emotional or physical injury. However, those charges were amended on Oct. 2, 2024, by Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille A. Johnston. The amended charges included one count of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in serious injury and two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, all with no sexual contact.
After a series of legal proceedings, Shearer reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Under the terms of the agreement, he pleed guilty to one charge of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, causing serious injury with no physical contact. Eighth Judicial…
