RAY COUNTY SPORTS NOTEBOOK
STILL UNDEFEATED The varsity boys weren’t Richmond’s only undefeated basketball team entering this week.
The middle school girls A team was 8-0 entering Monday’s meeting with visiting Oak Grove. That start included three wins last week – Dec. 9 against Marshall, Dec. 10 against Lexington and Dec. 12 against Holden.
A 14-point performance by Eva Moyer powered the young Spartans to a 40-14 home victory against Holden. Moyer’s stat line also included nine rebounds.
Other contributors included London Calvert and Emmie Mueller with eight points each, and Taylin Kreie with eight steals.
Holden’s stat leaders included Addi Brooks and Rehmi McCormick, who scored five points apiece.
Richmond overcame an early deficit to win the week’s finale. Trailing 7-6 after one quarter, the young Spartans erupted with a 15-1 second quarter. The middle school girls continued pulling away with a 13-1 third quarter and edged Holden 6-5 the final quarter.
