When it came time for Collin Lyon to help seal Hardin-Central’s 45-42 win over Tri-County in varsity boys basketball, he thought of what his coach, August Hoeper, might say. With Hardin-Central leading 44-42 and 13.2 seconds left in the final quarter of the Dec. 6 home meeting, Lyon was awarded two free throws after drawing a foul. He sank one of them, and following a Tri-County turnover, the Bulldogs ran out the clock. With Hoeper standing beside him, Lyon was asked about the key to maintaining self-control at the foul line at crunch time. Lyon replied: “Just listen to him so I don’t get yelled at.” Hoeper said he told Lyon “to just focus in and don’t think about it – just put it in.” Lyon said he did as Hoeper had instructed him.
