Burton sees commitment from H-C girls in second campaign at helm

Coach Tommy Burton has seen progress in Hardin-Central’s varsity girls basketball program since taking the helm in 2023. That progress started with himself, he suggested. “I think (the) first season … (was) a big learning curve for me, especially (with it) just being my first varsity head coaching position,” Burton said after a recent preseason practice. “The girls have bought in 100%, though.” That sense of buying into Burton’s leadership was evident to him by the time the Bulldogs spent in training this summer. “They figured … out that, if I’m going to run it (program), I’m going to run it correctly and they’re all for it,” he said. “They’re ready to put in the work, and they spent almost their entire summer with me.” Post player Hannah Finley, one of four juniors on the roster, has seen progress in different ways. “I think, last year, we were a little bit divided. … It was hard … coming in with a new coach, trying to understand what he wanted from us,” Finley recalled. “And…
