Roger Rowan

Roger Lee Rowan, 53, of Rayville passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at his daughter’s home following a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Roger was born March 15, 1971, in Richmond, the son of Carl Allen and Myrna L. (Waller) Rowan. Survivors include his daughter, Kaitlyn Rowan of Knoxville; brother, Robert (Nancy) Rowan of Knoxville; two nephews, Daniel “Danny” (Jamie) Rowan and Jeff (Megan) Rowan; niece, Megan (Josh) Rives; and great-nieces and nephews, Noah Rowan, Jack Rowan, Mars Rowan, Adilyn Rives and Colin Rives. Several cousins and special friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Roger was raised and educated in Richmond, graduating in 1989 from Richmond High School.

At an early age, he discovered his calling in farming, beginning his life’s work even before he could walk. As a toddler, he rode on his dad’s shoulders while helping with chores and checking cattle. Farming remained his passion throughout his life, as he dedicated himself to the family farm with unwavering hard work and the motto, “Cows don’t know it’s a holiday.”

Roger had a deep love for riding horses, barrel racing and showing cattle. One of his most cherished companions was Leo, his favorite horse for 30-plus years, affectionately remembered as the fastest horse in Ray County. After his father’s passing, Roger took great pride in raising high-quality cattle, ensuring the family’s farming legacy continued.

He passed down his love of farming to his daughter, teaching her to do chores before she could walk, just as he had learned. Sharing his knowledge of the farming lifestyle brought Roger immense joy, whether it was through side-by-side rides with his dad or mowing hay. His life was a testament to hard work, family bonds and a profound connection to the land he loved.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kincaid Cemetery. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Private family graveside services will be held in Kincaid Cemetery, north of Richmond. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
