Karen Joyce McBee, 82, of Hardin passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at her home.
Karen was born May 23, 1942, in Russellville, the daughter of W.H. “Junior” and Lois Emogene (Summers) Frazer.
She was united in marriage to Paul Daniel McBee of Richmond on Sept. 18, 1966. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2020.
Survivors include her two sons, Daniel “Shawn” (Chelsi) McBee and Steven Travis (Jennifer) McBee, both of Overland Park, Kan.; and daughter, Amanda (Russell) Chinn of San Angelo, Texas. Other survivors include her six grandchildren, Austin Chinn, Emily Chinn, Jack McBee, Grant McBee, Fox McBee and Breckyn McBee; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jean Frazer; and stepsister, Candice (Rick) Williams-Woodcock of Canada.
In addition to her parents and husband, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, David Wayne Frazer; and stepmother, Helen Frazer.
Karen was born on the family farm near Russellville, where she was raised and educated. She graduated in 1960 from Stet High School before attending Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, earning her bachelor’s degree in education. After completing her studies, she returned to her hometown and began her teaching career as a physical education teacher in Richmond, where she met her future husband, Paul.
Following their marriage, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and Karen supported his military career by teaching in various locations as they moved frequently. After his service, they settled in St. Louis before relocating in 1975 to their longtime home just north of Hardin.
Karen was deeply rooted in her community and actively participated in numerous organizations. She was a member of P.E.O., several teaching associations and volunteered regularly at Ray County Hospital. Her dedication to community service extended through her involvement in many other clubs and organizations. She also was a faithful member of the New Hope Methodist Church.
Karen had a love for games and was a longstanding member of a bridge club. She was an avid reader who enjoyed sharing her passion through her book club. Her warmth and enthusiasm for those activities created lasting bonds with friends and family, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the New Hope Methodist Church or cemetery. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, at the New Hope Methodist Church in Stet, with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the services beginning at 1:30. Interment was to be in New Hope Cemetery, Hardin.
