Fire departments battle local blaze
Richmond Fire Department (RFD) was dispatched to 403 Vine Street for a working structure fire earlier this week.
Fire crews arrived in minutes and confirmed the residents were not in the structure. Suppression efforts began immediately. Nearly the entire second floor was involved in fire, with areas of the first floor becoming involved from fall-down.
An interior attack was initiated via an internal stairwell, up into an upstairs hallway, encountering very high heat levels due to the free burning, well-ventilated fire on the second floor. Exterior hose streams were also deployed through openings on the second floor. The blaze was eventually extinguished, which was greatly aided by the compressed air foam system incorporated into the city’s newest fire apparatus.
No injuries were reported. The structure received heat and water damage throughout, and fire damage to the second floor and areas of the first floor through fire extension. The roof was damaged as well.
