Richmond High School graduate Layne Cavanah got William Jewell College started in the Cardinals’ recent 28-27 road victory over Southwest Baptist University. Cavanah, a junior wide receiver, caught a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback Jake Shaffer to help give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead with 12 minutes, 1 second remaining in the first quarter. It was among three catches for Cavanah, who had 28 total receiving yards. The Oct. 26 win put the Cardinals at 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
