Lyle Best didn’t have to wait long to experience the thrill of qualifying for state in girls golf. Best, a Richmond first-year high schooler, is set to compete in the Class 2 state tournament Oct. 21-22 at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa. She punched her ticket by placing fourth Monday in Class 2 District 2 competition at Eldon Golf Club. The top two teams and top 13 individuals not on those teams advanced. Best, who shot an 89 (+17) for her 18-hole, par-72 round was one of two Richmond qualifiers. Sophomore Karoline Dooley also qualified, shooting a 97 (+25) and placing 13th overall. “Karoline has been working hard all season, as well as in the offseason, for her chance at state,” Richmond girls coach Courtney Sisson stated Tuesday via email. “This has been a goal of hers all year, and I was excited to see her hard work pay off.” As a team, Richmond placed fifth among 11 schools with a 417.
