Spartans make clutch plays; edge Eagles again
When Richmond varsity 11-man football coach Nick Persell needed his Spartans to make clutch plays in Week 7 against visiting Holden, they did.
Defensively, the Spartans made two fourth-down stands during the fourth quarter of their 34-26 Oct. 11 Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division win. Early in the quarter, they denied Holden quarterback Wes Brown a completion on fourth-and-13 from the Richmond 44-yard line to take over on downs. Late in the quarter, they stopped Sam Comer for no gain on fourth-and-2 from the Holden 39.
“(The) defense played an incredible game,” Persell said.
In addition, Richmond (5-2 overall, 2-1 MRVC East) produced a fourth-quarter takeaway – an interception by Nolan Quick.
