Injury-riddled ’Cats focus on Sweet Springs

Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Chase Sims and his Bearcats might agree they’re facing three opponents Friday night at Simmons Field. There’s Sweet Springs – the on-thefield opponent. Because it’s Orrick’s homecoming, the Bearcats (2-4 overall) are facing the foe of off-the-field distractions. And the team must do so while fighting its latest injury bug. The Bearcats, whose roster was at around 30 when fall sports practices began, have seen their active roster depleted by about a dozen because of injuries, Sims estimated Monday morning on the team’s practice field. A few of those injuries occurred during Orrick’s 52-0 Week 6 road loss to Wellington-Napoleon. Those losses included senior Jeff Rohde, who suffered a shoulder injury “and is probably out for the entire season,” Sims said.
