James “Jim” Clyde Hardison, 74, of Richmond passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born May 17, 1950, in Lexington, the son of Clyde Samuel Henry and Nellie (Sharp) Hardison.

He was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Ann Sperbeck of Richmond on May 14, 1970. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Tracy (Scott) Fitch of Richmond; two granddaughters, Shelby Dawn Schnettgoecke and Emily Ann (Sam) Maples; three great-grandchildren, Rilynn Blu Schnettgoecke, Lynden Schnettgoecke and Truitt Vandiver; and a cousin, John Sharp of Richmond.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Lloyd.

Jim was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated with the class of 1968 from Richmond High School.

Throughout his career, he worked as a skilled tool and die maker for several local companies, including Whitaker Cable, General Motors and Schultz Tool in Independence, before retiring from Henkel.

Jim had a great sense of pride in maintaining his home, always ensuring everything was in top shape, particularly his lawn, which he loved tending.

A dedicated NASCAR fan, Jim could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers, sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with family and friends. His commitment to his community was evident, as he served multiple terms as a city councilman, contributing to local development and progress.

Above all, Jim’s greatest joy came from his family. He adored his granddaughters, Shelby and Emily, whom he affectionately called “Peach” and “Cadillac,” and was a proud and loving great-grandfather. One of his favorite activities was watching his greatgranddaughters participate in Kids Tractor Pulling events.

Jim will be deeply missed by those who knew him, but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
