Orrick’s varsity 8-man football program feels KC Chiefs’ pain
To Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Chase Sims, his Bearcats are in a situation similar to Kansas City’s NFL franchise.
According to Sims, the Bearcats have lost some key players to injuries, as the Chiefs have. In the Chiefs’ case, those losses have included running back Isiah Pacheco, sidelined recently with a fibula injury; and wide receiver Rashee Rice, who reportedly injured a knee Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. In Orrick’s case, the losses include senior Jacob McElwee, who had leave early in the Bearcats’ 55-6 Week 5 road loss to Concordia after hurting his back.
“(We) lost two or three players that were starters during the game,” Sims said Monday on Orrick’s practice field.
And the Bearcats (2-3 overall) were without some key players before taking the field, to Sims said. Those who sat out included yardage and touchdown leader Jeff Rohde.
“Everything kind of piled up,” Sims said.
But the personnel losses meant some lesser experienced players got game reps…
