Chase Sims had what he called “a pretty special moment” on Sept. 13. That night, Sims got his first victory as Orrick’s varsity 8-man football coach, with the Bearcats thumping the Keytesville/Brunswick/Northwestern of Mendon co-op 48-18 at Keytesville. As the Richmond News reported, Sims replaced Kirk Thacker, who recently resigned as varsity track and football coach and announced his plans to retire as a teacher. Thacker, a Richmond High School alumnus, was into his fourth season when he resigned. “I told Kirk I’d give these boys everything I have to offer and that he’s built a great program that I hope to live up to,” Sims stated Monday via email.
