Council receives updates on water treatment plant

The Richmond City Council was provided with updates on the water plant rehabilitation project during a recent meeting. There are four components to the project, according to Olsson representative Nolan Groff, which included recoating the two chemical silos, filter media replacement, filter valve replacement and wastewater basin solid contacts replacement. Prep work has begun on the silos, which will take six to eight weeks each. The recoating and should be completed in December, according to Groff. The contractor has ordered a replacement filter media, which removes viruses. This task will take a couple of weeks per filter to install, and completion is expected in the fall. “The valves are on site, but they’re going to wait until the water demand is pretty low, so that would be kind of in the winter when nobody’s irrigating,” said Groff. “Their plan is to start doing the valve replacement in December, which will take two to three months.
