Orrick pins loss on injuries, prep issues

An injury to a team leader might have had a snowball effect in Orrick’s 42-0 Sept. 6 home loss to Paris. Senior Jeff Rohde said he suffered a popped blood vessel while playing quarterback. The injury was in his passing hand, forcing him to the bench. When he re-entered, he reinjured the hand, he said. “I think it just kind of put our teammates in a non-motivated, bad mood,” Rohde said Tuesday on Orrick’s practice field. “And nobody just really wanted to win.” The injury to Rohde and others was one reason for the rout, according to senior offensive/defensive lineman Tucker Greer. Greer cited poor game preparation as another. “We didn’t have a very good week of practice last week,” he said. “And we kind of overlooked Paris. And Paris was a phenomenal team. They were … wellcoached, and they were great teammates to each other – good line, good skills. I mean, they were just a good team.
