NHC gets first varsity 8-man win over Sweet Springs
A drought is over for Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) varsity 8-man football coach Andrew Watson and his Aggies.
By thumping Sweet Springs 76-18 Aug. 30 on the road, the Aggies got their first win over the Greyhounds since the programs began facing each other in 2022. As the Richmond News recently reported, Sweet Springs won the first three meetings – two in 2022 and one last season.
“We (coaches) made it well-known that we hadn’t beat those guys yet and … that we … (needed) to come out and make a statement (in) Week 1 that not only are we better than those guys, but we think we’re one of the better teams around,” Watson said Tuesday on NHC’s practice field at Hardin-Central.
NHC’s energy level and aggressiveness were keys to the season-opening victory, Watson said. Another key was that the Aggies followed a motto preached by defensive coordinator Justin Donald: “Alignment, assignment, execution.” They followed that motto – and not just on defense, according to Watson.
