New RHS girls golf coach eager to build on program’s tradition

For the first time in 16 years, Murray Dennis isn’t coaching Richmond High School golf. Courtney Sisson is one of the successors to Dennis, who retired in May after the boys season. Sisson, a 2003 Richmond graduate, is the new girls coach. “I’m excited to follow in Murray’s footsteps. … He’s been around for a while,” Sisson said Aug. 19 at Shirkey Golf Course, where the Spartans play their home matches. “And he’s built a solid program.” To help her maintain that program, Sisson said she’s applying some lessons she learned from her coach at Richmond – Jeff Southwick. Southwick led the girls team to a runner-up finish in the 2000 Class 1A-2A state tournament, the 2001 Class 1A-2A state title and a Class 1 state runnerup finish in 2002. When asked what lessons she learned from Southwick that have prepared her to coach, Sisson replied: “I think fundamentals are key.
