Commissioners hash out bridge details, rezoning
The Myers Road bridge project is officially underway following initial invoice signing during a recent Ray County Commissioner’s meeting.
The move came following a presentation of the initial renderings of the new bridge by Great River Engineering. The existing multi-span bridge — about 21 feet wide, multi-span, and around 132 feet long, and located on a 93-degree turn from the roadway — was rated poor and structurally deficient in a 2021 National Bridge Inventory report.
With average daily traffic at 55, 10% being truck traffic, the deck and substructure shows advanced section loss, deterioration, spalling or scour, according to https://infobridge. fhwa.dot.gov/Data/Map. The substructure is listed to be in serious condition, affecting primary structural components and local failures are possible. Additionally, the railings do not meet currently acceptable standards, according to the website.
