Rayville man charged with felony assaults

A Rayville man has been arrested on charges of first- and second-degree assault. Logan D. Covey, 23, was arrested on July 19 by the Ray County Sheriff’s Office and recently appeared before Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Lori J. Baskins. He entered a plea of not guilty and was denied any type of bond reduction. According to the Ray County Jail, Covey is currently in their custody with no bond allowed. Covey appeared this week for a criminal setting hearing, but information was not made available as of press time. On July 19, Ray County Sheriff’s Office Deputies D. Royse and K. Railey were dispatched to Missouri River Road, south of Highway J, on a report of a single motor vehicle accident. “Upon arrival, we observed a passenger vehicle in the ditch with the reporting party next to the vehicle,” according to the probable cause statement written by Royse. “Victim One advised that he had been drinking and that his friend, Logan Covey, had been drinking as well and crashed the…
