Gwen Gilbow Gwendolyn “Gwen” Martha Gilbow, 66, of Richmond passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Gwen was born July 11, 1957, in Richmond, the daughter of William and Flossie (Folkes) Kohl.
She was united in marriage to James “Jim” L. Gilbow of Hardin on June 7, 1975. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include her son, Mitchell (Katie) Gilbow of Richmond; and two daughters, Heather (Tim) Logsdon of Richmond and Tracy Walden (Don Stafford) of Kansas City. Still other survivors include six grandchildren: Blake, Trent and Paige Logsdon; and Amelia, Olivia and Lawrence Gilbow.
She also leaves behind two brothers, William (Maxine) Kohl Jr. of Hardin and Justin “J.D.” (Vicki) Kohl of Richmond; and six sisters, Ruby Daniel of Richmond, Minnie Soutee of Higginsville, Rosie Baker-Coffman of Wellsville, Kan., Bernice (David) Vermillion of Hardin, Bernette (Steve) Bremer of Sparta, Ill., and Helen (Terry) Seek of Lexington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Ellen Boone and Lily Pauline Kohl in infancy.
Gwen was raised and educated in her birthplace, graduating in 1975 from Hardin-Central High School.
She dedicated her life to childcare in the Ray County area, nurturing countless local children. For more than 40 years, Gwen was deeply involved in 4-H, serving as club leader for the Guys and Gals Club in Richmond and as a project leader, earning a place in the 4-H Hall of Fame.
Guided by her Christian faith, she was a devoted member of the Hardin Christian Church. Known for her unselfishness and willingness to help anyone for any worthy cause, Gwen embodied kindness and compassion.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, annual family trips to Florida and attending concerts. Gwen also enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Visitation was scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in New Hope Cemetery, located north of Hardin.
