Learning curve continues for H-C boys hoopsters at Lawson
Monday’s losses to Braymer and Stewartsville/Osborn in summer-league play at Lawson provided Hardin-Central varsity boys basketball coach August Hoeper with additional reminders that his Bulldogs are undergoing a learning curve.
As Hoeper pointed out shortly after the two games, the program lost four players in May to graduation, three of whom started last season. Those graduates – Denver Douglas, Jesse Doyle, Drew Hawkins and Kameron Pugh – led Hardin-Central to a 17-10 season and the Class 1 District 13 title game, where they lost to Braymer.
With those roster losses, Hardin-Central’s summer lineup includes three first-time starters, according to Hoeper: Kaden McGinnis and Gage Smith, both of whom will be juniors this fall; and Sam Barnett, who’ll be a sophomore.
“It’s just hard coming back ... (in) the summer rebuilding with the younger guys that I’m starting,” Hoeper said.
