Special prosecutor removed from former sheriff’s case

The Platte County Prosecutor’s Office has been removed from a case involving former Ray County Sheriff Garry E. Bush. This move followed several recusals from the case by judges and prosecutors in the Ray County court system. Bush, 68, of Ray County, is facing one misdemeanor charge of resisting or interfering with an arrest. Bush recently appeared in Ray County Court with his attorney, Scott D. Hamilton, before 43rd Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jason A. Kanoy, who was assigned to the case after Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judges Kevin L. Walden and Lori J. Baskins recused themselves. Because Ray County Prosecutor Camille A. Johnston also recused herself, the state was represented by a special prosecuting attorney, Platte County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Collin S. Vanostran.
