Ordinance overturned by presiding commissioner’s vote

Ray County Commissioner Billy Gains’ presiding vote stands valid to overturn a previously approved ordinance prohibiting approval of applications that are in violation of federal law, including marijuana grow facilities. The latest move by the commissioners will allow the group to approve applications for such facilities to operate in the county. The issue arose most recently in the May 23 meeting of the commissioners, where concerned citizens voiced their opinions about removing the ordinance. The commissioners had voted in April 2023 to deny such facilities to operate in the county, as does federal law.
