City maintains favorable fire rating

Community Development Director Lisa Hastings announced the retention of a four rating for fire protection and building codes in the city. The audit was conducted by International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The city first achieved the rating five years ago. Audits are conducted every five years and take about six months to complete, Hastings explained. ISO is an independent non-governmental international organization that develops and publishes voluntary international standards and serves as the basis for regulations and guidelines adopted by governments worldwide. ISO class one is exceptional fire protection while ISO class 10 is minimal or no fire protection. Missouri’s overall ISO average for participating cities is six. The city’s rating is based on two areas, fire protection and building codes.
