V-ball season ends for Richmond in districts

For Cody Hogan, his first season as Richmond’s varsity volleyball coach was informative.

“(There was) a lot that I learned,” Hogan said Tuesday. “It was fun.”

Hogan made his comments after Richmond’s 3-0 season-ending loss to Excelsior Springs at Excelsior Springs in the Class 3 District 15 Tournament. The Spartans (5-21-1) fell to Excelsior Springs 25-15 in the first set, 25-14 in the second and 25-12 in the third.

It was Richmond’s second loss to Excelsior Springs this season. The Tigers swept the Spartans 2-0 Sept. 16 in regularseason tournament play in Chillicothe.

The Spartans played better in the rematch, according to Hogan.

“I think our coverage was better. … We did what we needed to do,” he said. “We had … some good hits, good receives, good serves.”
