Ketterman looks to create stability, trust with OHS volleyballers

Mackenzie Ketterman hopes to end the revolving door of Orrick varsity volleyball coaches. Ketterman, the coach of Orrick’s junior high program last season, was chosen to replace Tanner Lowrey, who left after one season. She’s the fourth coach in as many seasons for seniors like Natasha Hicks, who has experienced similar turnover during her girls basketball career. “Our coaches are just very inconsistent for girls sports, period,” Hicks said Aug. 10 after practice in the Orrick High School gym. “It’s very frustrating.” Because Ketterman is in her second year of coaching and teaching in the Orrick R-XI School District, it’s easier for Hicks and her teammates to believe she’ll provide coaching consistency, Ketterman said. Some of Ketterman’s life choices also might help with convincing them. “I actually live in Orrick,” Ketterman said. “I’m planning to settle down here. My son is starting school here next year.
