Three pursuits, one night
With three pursuits and the recovery of a stolen vehicle this past weekend, the Ray County Sheriff’s Department and other assisting agencies “stayed busy,” said Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers.
The first pursuit was of a vehicle believed to have been involved in an Independence shooting but is not yet confirmed, said Childers.
Childers said he was notified about the first pursuit at approximately 8:02 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The pursuit was assisted by the Kansas City Helicopter Unit, Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Richmond City Police Department and Missouri Highway Patrol, said Childers.
“Highway patrol put spikes down for the pursuit but it only got one of the stolen car’s rear tires,” he said. “There was some miscommunication and two of our vehicles ran over them and had to pull back.”
Childers said the helicopter unit had to be relieved due to running low on fuel and all agencies pulled back.
