Richmond students visit Washington, D.C.

Richmond Middle School eighth-grade students recently took an educational trip to Washington, D.C. Brenda Hamm, middle school math teacher, has overseen the trip since 2010 and encouraged students and parents to sign up for the adventure. “The importance of the trip is letting history come to life through the wonderful experiences by exploring the home and plantation at Mt. Vernon, being an active part of a Revolutionary War Reenactment, visiting Fort McHenry which inspired the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, touring Ford’s Theatre and the Anderson House where President Abraham Lincoln was shot and died,” she said. The group visited the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum and American History Museum, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial during their first day there.
