Local musicians treat surrounding nursing facilities

Music is a gift to all who hear and several weeks back, the residents at the Oak Ridge Assisted Living Facility received a treat from a veteran group of musicians – the Country Music Makers. The group features bluegrassstyle music, hymns, gospel and as their name implies, mid-20th-century country music. The group entertains Oak Ridge residents nearly every month and also performs at many other nursing/assisted living facilities in between. Guitarist David Simmons leads the band through song sets at each performance. Simmons sets up the equipment and serves as MC. Each band member takes a turn singing a solo while the rest play along. The band’s vast repertoire includes songs like “Wabash Cannonball,” “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In” and “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?” The elderly residents say they thoroughly enjoy hearing songs from their era, when they were young.
