A one-year-old girl was fatally injured in a Hardin train accident at approximately 8:48 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway 2009 CE train was headed eastbound and “the crash occurred as a child was stationary on railroad tracks and was struck,” according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) traffic crash reports. The Ray County Sheriff’s personnel, Hardin Fire Department and MSHP were on the scene. “Due to the privacy of the family, we are not releasing details,” said Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers. “What I can say is that it was a tragic accident. I get it, people want to know the information, but it’s not my place as the sheriff to release certain things about incidents that have happened due to the fact it would cause more hurt for the family,” the seriff said. “We see no negligence or any wrongdoing, therefore, we consider this a tragic accident.
