Making a difference with paint
Serving the community in new territory can be a challenge, but Richmond newcomer Krista Kennedy embraced it. What started as a kennel painting party at Ray County Humane Society has turned into an opportunity “to give back” on a regular basis.
After the painting party concluded, it didn’t stop. At this point, of the six kennels painted, four have been by Kennedy’s brush.
“There were kennels in disrepair that couldn’t house animals because the paint was chipping and the conditions weren’t well. I’ve been painting to help clean and update the kennels and to make it a better environment for everyone,” she said, noting she tends to buy the “oopsie paints” from Home Depot when she visits.
One of the many reasons for painting the kennels was to make them look nice and provide a safe kennel. More importantly, however, was removal of the paint that was chipping off the walls, which is a safety hazard because it could get into the dogs’ food bowls and bedding.
