Easter homesteading event spreads knowledge

Locals recently received a unique opportunity to learn how to live more sustainably. The Homesteading in Ray County Easter Extravaganza and Small Animal Sale took place at the Ray County Fairgrounds this past weekend. The event was hosted by farm owner and minister Casey Holman, who said he hosted the event to teach residents how to live offgrid and increase knowledge of sustainable living and traditional skills. Although the event was competing with the weekend holiday, Holman said vendors and groups did just as well as his last event. The event also included an Easter egg hunt at the Ray County Museum. “It was a lot slower, but good for Easter weekend,” said Ray County Museum Director Cathy Gottsch. Holman demonstrated how to use the shave horse and various wood carving techniques. The shave horse — a workbench, vise and chair rolled into one — is foot-operated and allowsthe operator to hold a piece of wood, while having both hands free to work. “My favorite part is definitely…
