D.C. trip set for eighth-graders

The trip to Washington, D.C. for eighth-grade students has been set for May 22-26, and Richmond Middle School students are welcome to participate in the group trip with their parents’ permission and support. Brenda Hamm, the middle school math teacher, has overseen trip information since 2010 and encourages students and parents to sign up for the trip, she said. “The importance of the trip is letting history come to life through the wonderful experiences,” she said. “Exploring the home and plantation at Mount Vernon, being an active part of a Revolutionary War Reenactment, visiting Fort McHenry which inspired the writing of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner,’ touring Ford’s Theatre and the Anderson House where President Lincoln was shot and died.” Hamm added the students would explore the Holocaust Museum and thoroughly understand what happened to more than 6 million Jews, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and visit the Lincoln, Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr. and Franklin Roosevelt…
