Bald eagle makes appearance in Richmond
A bald eagle – America’s National Bird since 1782 – was recently spotted in Richmond by the Wolf family while walking by Ray County Lake.
Gregg Wolf; his wife Tara; and children, Grayson, 7, and Eden, 14, saw the national treasure perched on a nearby tree.
“I overheard Tara and Eden talking about the large bird in a tree, discussing whether it was a hawk or a vulture. Eden said it looked like an eagle but dismissed it because it was here in Richmond,” said Gregg. “I zoomed in with my iPhone and could see the white head and confirmed to them it was definitely an eagle.”
From December through February, Missouri’s winter eagle watching is spectacular, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), through Eagle Days events around the state or enjoy watching bald eagles on your own.
