Wood Heights patrol results in drug bust
A late January patrol near Wood Heights Fire Department resulted in the felony arrest of a Richmond woman.
Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said he saw two vehicles stop by Schumacher Road in Wood Heights and felt the meetup was suspicious activity. Deborah Rush, 47, and another unidentified driver returned to their vehicles and drove East on 10 Hwy towards Richmond. Childers contacted his deputies and advised them of the two vehicles.
The vehicles were stopped on C and 10 Hwy. Childers said upon questioning Rush, his suspicion rose.
“Her answers were not making sense,” he said.
The sheriff said the K9 unit was deployed and offers received a positive alert, resulting in a search of Rush’s vehicle. The search revealed a metal box found under the hood. Rush was placed into custody, and the driver of the second vehicle was released after determining they were not in possession of illegal substances.
