H-C boys focusing on basketball basics after Northwestern loss
Hardin-Central’s 53-33 loss Dec. 15 to visiting Northwestern of Mendon in varsity boys basketball made something clear to Bulldogs coach Brent Behler.
“I kind of misjudged where we were, defensively and offensively,” Behler said. “We (have) got a lot of just fundamentals to work on, to be honest with you.”
Those fundamentals, no doubt, involve three areas that hurt Hardin-Central, according to Behler.
“We lost because of lack of defensive rotation and free throws and layups,” he said.
The Bulldogs went 6-for-23 on free throw attempts (26.1 percent), including 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) the second half. By contrast, the Eagles made 13 of 21 total attempts (61.9 percent).
There also was a contrast in how the ballclubs shot from the field – layups or otherwise. Unofficially, the Eagles were 19 of 48 (39.6 percent). The Bulldogs were 12 of 46 (26.1 percent).
