Spartans, Bulldogs enjoy temps, scenery at Lexington
LEXINGTON – The general consensus among Richmond and Hardin-Central cross country runners about the Battle of Lexington Invitational, staged Oct. 8 on the Lexington High School campus, was this: It was a great date and place to run.
One fan of the meet scheduling was Adam Summers, who paced the Richmond varsity boys. The sophomore finished 20th in the varsity boys race in 19 minutes, 0.33 second. The 3.1-mile race “went great,” Summers said.
“I like the morning weather,” he said. “It cooled off my core and allowed me to run a lot faster.”
In other Richmond boys results, Sheldon Goedeke placed 31st in 19:52.45, Daxton McGinnis took 46th in 20:54.06 and Grayson Rice finished 73rd in 23:00.6.
Like Summers, McGinnis liked racing in the morning. It was more appealing than running in the afternoon, as the Spartans had done Oct. 4 at the Excelsior Springs Invitational, where temperatures hovered in the low 80s. He also found Lexington’s course more appealing than the hill-filled race…
